At the moment, many foreign nationals are interested in Ukrainian passport not only as a document confirming the citizenship of Ukraine, but also as a tool of business. In this article we will try to describe briefly the mechanism of obtaining citizenship and passport of citizen of Ukraine:

The law "On citizenship of Ukraine" dated 18.01.2001 №2235-III (with changes and additions from 5.04.2005 n 2508-IV and from 16.07.2005 No. 2663-IV) defines the legal contents of Ukrainian citizenship, the grounds and the procedure for obtaining and termination of powers of public authorities involved in the decision of questions of citizenship of Ukraine, the procedure for appealing decisions on issues of citizenship, actions or inaction of state authorities, their officials and officers.

Now in Ukraine there are two ways of obtaining citizenship:

1) General procedure for registration of citizenship of Ukraine. According to the General procedure of obtaining the citizenship of Ukraine is in a period of 1 year. The basis for this procedure in addition to other documents is the presence of a residence permit, the procedure for obtaining a residence permit, we have described in the previous article.

2) Accelerated procedure for registration of citizenship of Ukraine is in a period of up to 20 working days, the reason for it is the presence of direct relatives (brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandchildren) of citizens of Ukraine or the applicant previously were the citizens of Ukraine.

Date of receiving Ukrainian citizenship in such cases is the date of publication of the relevant decree of the President of Ukraine.

As for obtaining a passport of citizen of Ukraine, foreigners and persons without citizenship, the situation is as follows:

A passport of citizen of Ukraine carried out in accordance with the regulations on the passport of the citizen of Ukraine and the Order of registration and issuance of passport of citizen of Ukraine, approved by order of MIA dated 15.06.2006 N 600.

The Ukrainian passport is a document certifying identity and confirming citizenship of Ukraine.

According to paragraph 18 of the Procedure for registration and issuance of passport of citizen of Ukraine, foreigners and stateless persons who have received Ukrainian citizenship, get a passport on the basis of the certificate of registration of a person as a citizen of Ukraine, issued by the territorial body of service on Affairs of citizenship, immigration and registration of individuals.
