Name of the course: "Legal self-defense under martial law"



The purpose of the course: To teach citizens to know their rights and how to protect them during martial law in Ukraine.

Course topics:

  1. Definition of martial law and its consequences for citizens.

  2. Rights and obligations of citizens during martial law.

  3. How to behave during detention, search and arrest.

  4. How to properly behave during questioning and interrogation. How to contact a lawyer and get legal assistance free of charge.

  5. How to apply to law enforcement agencies and the court in case of violation of rights.


In the course of training, you will learn about:

  ◦ procedure for communication with police and civil servants, rights and obligations during martial law, collection and recording of evidence;

  ◦ working with legal documents, how to write documents to government institutions so that you are heard;

  ◦ writing and submitting statements to law enforcement agencies about criminal offenses and complaints to the court to initiate an investigation;

  ◦ correct search for legal information, and work with information databases, the basics of criminology;

  ◦ use of the electronic court system for self-defense, filing complaints, lawsuits, etc.

Teaching methods: lectures, discussions, role-playing games, video materials, practical tasks.

Evaluation: Course participants will be evaluated for activity in classes and the results of practical tasks with the issuance of an electronic certificate.

Outcomes of the course: After completing the course, participants will be able to:

- know your rights and responsibilities;

- act correctly and effectively in case of illegal actions against them;

- apply for legal assistance and protect your rights in the competent authorities.

Yevsyutin Oleksandr Mykoalayovych

Born on February 16, 1979.

Education: Law specialist (Eastern Ukrainian National University) and master's degree in international relations (National Aviation University). Advanced training at the Academy of the Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine and at the National Association of Lawyers of Ukraine.

Experience: 22 years in the field of law and legal protection of citizens and businesses in the following positions:

     legal adviser at the processing complex of a large agricultural enterprise in 2001,
     service in the military prosecutor's office and internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs - 2001-2002,
     investigator of the district prosecutor's office from 2003 to 2005,
     the prosecutor of the department of the regional prosecutor's office for the supervision of special units and other institutions that carry out the fight against organized crime and corruption from 2005 to 2007,
     lawyer in criminal, military, migration, civil, family and international cases since 2007,
     director of the Yevsyutin, Milovanov and Partners Law and Consulting Bureau from 2009 to 2013,
     head of the regional branch of the Association of Advocates of Ukraine from 2011 to 2017.
     head of the regional branch of the Association of Lawyers of Ukraine from 2012 to 2018,
     head of the regional center for providing free secondary legal aid of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine in 2013-2014.
     director of the foreign representation of the National Association of Ukraine in Pakistan and India in 2020-2021,
     founder and director of the international legal network United international Partners.

Oleksandr Yevsyutin is a certified expert and lecturer at the following institutions:

     National Association of Lawyers of Ukraine,
     Public Council under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine,
     Academy of consulting business.

Course materials: Manuals on legal self-defense in martial law, legislative acts on martial law and citizens' rights.

Duration of the course: 8 hours

Each question is taught in a separate lecture lasting 45 minutes.

+ time to answer questions 25 min. It is fixed by completing the task.

+ homework check and discussion 25 min.

Each lecture will be recorded and access to the recording will be made available to students.

In general, it is planned to hold 1 activity per week.

A total of 6 take 95 minutes each, which we will spend at a convenient evening time in zoom on Saturdays.
A distinctive feature of the course is the illustration of the material with examples from my practice and exclusive samples of documents.

Every person has the right to protection against fraudsters, corrupt persons, abusers of power and official position, which includes the right to independently defend one's position out of court and in court (self-defense), as well as the appropriate skills and abilities

  ⁃ correct perception of legal facts,

  ⁃ searching for information,

  ⁃ collection and fixation of evidence,

  ⁃ understanding of established rules of conduct,

  ⁃ correct writing of documents for appeals to law enforcement agencies, the court and encouraging them to fulfill the duties assigned to them.

All this is necessary in order to obtain a result, to restore the violated rights, to receive compensation for the damage caused, and above all to prevent the commission of illegal actions against you or the prevention of illegal inaction.
