Parts 1, 4 and 7 of article 8 of the law of Ukraine "On citizenship of Ukraine" stipulates that the entity, which itself or at least one of the parents, grandparent, family (full and half) brother or sister, son or daughter, grandson or granddaughter were born or permanently resided before August 24, 1991 in the territory which became the territory of Ukraine according to the Law of Ukraine "On succession of Ukraine", which itself or whether at least one of the parents, grandparent, family (full and half) brother or sister were born or permanently resided in other territories were at the time of their birth or during their permanent residence in the Ukrainian people's Republic, Western Ukrainian people's Republic, Ukrainian State, Ukrainian Socialist Soviet Republic, Transcarpathian Ukraine, Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic (SSR), is a person without citizenship or a foreigner who has submitted obligation to terminate foreign citizenship, and filed a statement of acquisition of citizenship of Ukraine, as well as her minor children are registered citizens of Ukraine.

Foreigners who are nationals (citizens) of the several States, serves of the obligation to cease the citizenship of all those States. Foreigners granted the refugee status in Ukraine or asylum in Ukraine, instead of the obligation to terminate foreign citizenship submit the Declaration of abandonment of a person granted refugee status in Ukraine or asylum in Ukraine, from foreign citizenship.

Foreigners mentioned in parts one - three of this article, who filed an obligation to terminate foreign citizenship shall submit a document certifying this issued by authorized body of the state concerned, to the authorized body of Ukraine for two years from the date of registration of their citizens of Ukraine. If foreigners, having all the stipulated by the legislation of that state the grounds for obtaining such a document for reasons beyond their control are unable to obtain it, they submit a Declaration of renunciation of foreign citizenship.

Thus, in Ukraine there is a simplified procedure of obtaining citizenship if You meet the above conditions. It is worth noting. if You or Your family were not born on the territory of modern Ukraine, and were not permanently resident there (was not registered), then You can obtain citizenship on the same basis.

In doubtful cases, it is possible to establish a legal fact of permanent residence on the territory of Ukraine and on this basis to obtain the citizenship of Ukraine.
